HAZELTON-Carl “Dean” Alexander, 81, passed away on July 11, 2013 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Graveside service will be Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery near Hazelton. Visitation will be Monday, July 15, 2013 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm with the family present to receive friends from 5-7. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Medicine Lodge and given to the funeral home.
Dean was born on November 30, 1931 in Anthony, Kansas to William Carl and Gladys Alene Utt Alexander. He graduated from Hazelton High School in 1949 and was drafted into the Army in 1951. While serving in the Army he stood as an honor guard during President Eisenhowers inauguration in Washington, D.C. After spending two years in the Army he went to Kansas State University on the GI Bill, where he received a Bachelors Degree in Agronomy with honors. Being an agronomist he was one of the first farmers to put fertilizer on his crops. He received the young farmers award from K.State. He married Marilyn Koblitz on June 23, 1957 and they just celebrated their 56th anniversary. After seven years of marriage they adopted daughter, Kelley and son, Steve. After graduating from college they moved to his parents’ farm southeast of Hazelton, where they resided for 54 years. He was one of the founders of the Barber County Water District, he served on the hospital board and the Hazelton Coop board. He helped build the additions to the Corwin and Hazelton elevators. He retired from farming due to ill health.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve; brother-in-law, Omar Long.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Kelley; granddaughter, Destiny; sisters, Shirley Hart and LaDonna Long, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
