Betty Lou Schmidt

November 7, 1952  -  December 29 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Lou Schmidt, 69, of Sharon, Kansas announces her passing from earthly life on December 29, 2021.  Betty died peacefully at Ascension Via Christi St. Frances in Wichita while surrounded by her loving family.  What a gift.  Betty died from complications of diabetes, kidney failure, and heart and vascular disease.

Betty was born in Hardtner, Kansas on November 7, 1952, the third child of George and Rella Mae Courson.  Betty grew up with her family in Kiowa and received her high school education there before pursuing her cosmetology licensing in Enid, Oklahoma.  She eventually started her own beauty shop in Sharon.  After having her second son, Craig, she made the decision to stay at home and concentrate on raising her children, which she did the remainder of her life.

Betty had a profound love for her husband, her three boys, as well as her grandchildren and great grandson.  She had numerous cats and dogs, but her most recent cat friend, “Punkie,” will miss her badly.  Early in their marriage, Betty and Doug enjoyed traveling to Colorado.  However, it seemed that she would normally return home pregnant, so she avoided going there until later in life.  Betty had several nicknames during her lifetime including “Boo Boo” and “Betsy”.

Betty is survived by Doug, her loving husband of 43 years; sons, Michael Schmidt, Craig (Shelon) Schmidt, and Matthew Schmidt; her best friend and sister, Sue Carlisle; brother, Russel Dean (Judy) Courson; sister-in-law, Lou Ann Courson; twelve grandchildren, one great grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, George Robert Courson; mother, Rella Mae Courson; brother, George Dale Courson; brother-in-law, David Carlisle; daughter-in-law, Hope Schmidt; two nieces Emily Elizabeth Sue and Megan Lea Smith.
