Betty Lou Oakley was born on August 1, 1932 to Purcell Hostetler and Katherine Evans Hostetler in Taylor Springs, Illinois and passed from this life on May 28, 2023 in Carmen. Betty moved from Spokane, Washington and had lived in this area for 48 years. She graduated in 1953 from Memorial Hospital in Springfield as a Registered Nurse. She did postgraduate studies at St. John School of Nursing, graduating in 1955. She enlisted in the Nurses Corps of the U.S. Air Force and was a Second Lieutenant, retiring from the military in 1959. She married Bill Oakley and to this union four children were born: Lisa, Leigh, Lori, and Lanette. She was a member of the Carmen Christian Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Oakley; her parents, Purcell and Katherine Hostetler; two brothers; daughter, Lisa Durham; two grandsons, Joshua Bragg and Gabriel Joel Bowden.
Survivors include her three children, Leigh Castillo and husband, Phillip of Tulsa, Lori Bowden and husband, Darrell of Amarillo, Texas, and Lanette Murrow of Alva; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
