Betty was born on March 24, 1928 to Michael C. and Pauline Weideman Smith in Southard, Oklahoma. After graduating from Southard High School, Betty married Loren Young on July 6, 1946 in Wichita, Kansas. Most of their married life they lived in Okeene where they raised their two daughters, Paula and Stephanie.
Betty enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and embroidering. She was an outstanding cook, specializing in lemon meringue pies. After retiring as office manager of Sooner Coop in 1985, Betty and her husband, Loren, toured in their travel trailer from coast to coast, from Key West to Maine, and from San Diego to Seattle. Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church and Chapter A, P.E.O.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Pauline Smith and her husband, Loren Young.
She is survived by her two daughters: Paula Sproul and husband, Wally of Isabella, Oklahoma and Stephanie Brickman and husband, Ronald of Knoxville, Tennessee; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren: Jennifer Dedman and husband, Stephen and daughter, Alison of Knoxville, Tennessee; Shari Schultz and sons, Daniel and Jacob of Wichita Falls, Texas; Jacob Brickman and wife, Emily and sons Kemper and Bodhi of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Emily Hays and husband, Dustin and sons, Collin and Owen of Wichita Falls, Texas; Jeanne Rae Martin and husband, Robert and daughters, Maycee and Kynslee of Knoxville, Tennessee and Andy Sproul and wife, Malini and daughter, Isabel and son, Andrew of Isabella, Oklahoma.
