Andy Murrell, born on October 13, 1955, in Coalgate, Oklahoma, passed away on September 3, 2024, in Cherokee, Oklahoma. He was a cherished member of his community, leaving behind a legacy defined by kindness and service to others.
Andy was a proud graduate of Cherokee High School, class of 1973, and continued his education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Wildlife Conservation in 1977. His education shaped not only his professional life but also nurtured his lifelong passion for the outdoors and community involvement.
Throughout his lifetime, Andy had a rewarding career as a mechanic assistant for Holderby Ford, dedicating many years to esteemed companies such as Ford and John Deere. He retired after spending significant time with Lewis Lavicky, where he was known for his reliability and hard work
Outside of work, Andy possessed a samaritan's heart and was always ready to lend a helping hand to his neighbors. He would often be seen mowing their lawns and taking out their trash, showcasing a spirit of generosity that was admired by many. Andy also found joy in solving crossword puzzles, a hobby that kept his mind sharp and provided him with countless hours of enjoyment.
A long-time member of the Cherokee Baptist Church, Andy cherished his time spent with his Sunday School Class, fostering friendships that enriched his life. His commitment to his faith and community left a profound impact on those who knew him.
Andy is survived by sister, Cynthia Burris and husband, Jon; brother, David Murrell and wife, Marie; nieces, Aija Springer and husband, Mike, Kari Brown and husband, Bobby, Madeline Michalopulos and husband, Michael and Sarah Murrell; nephew, Ryan Murrell, and two great nieces and two great nephews.
He now joins his loved ones who have preceded him in death, including his father, Buddy Murrell; his mother, Stella Murrell and his brother, Tony Murrell.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Andy's life at his funeral service, which will be held on September 6, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cherokee First Baptist Church with burial to follow at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery.
